These seeds are loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids and are a real powerhouse of nutrients.
Chia Seed Pudding is a great breakfast or go-to snack for the afternoon.
We summarised all the benefits of the seeds, their origin, how best to cook with them and their nutritional benefits in our Chia Seed Overview article.
Chia Seeds: How do I use them?
I personally use them in plenty of recipes as I am always looking to add a little Omega 3 to my diet. I do not eat fish so I am keeping an eye on plant based sources of Omega 3.
Chia Seed pudding is an obvious use but I also like to replace eggs in my cakes, by using either a flax egg or chia seed egg. For that I mix 1 Tbsp of chia seeds + 2.5 Tbsp water.
The seeds also work as a great add on in my granola recipe or healthy breakfast with oatmeal. I just a table spoon to my bowl and get my Omega 3 shot.
Post workout or as mid morning snack, I like to add a spoon of seeds to a fruit shake and that makes it a bit more filling. It’s a great way to feel like you had a satisfying snack, but without the calories.
What should I consider when buying Chia?
Most seeds on the market come from Peru. I make sure they are organic and I like to mix white and black. When using chia seeds as egg replacement I use white seeds and else I stick to a mix of both.
